Eddie Van Halen’s “Falling Down The Stairs…Landing On Your Feet” Technique.<\/h2>\n

Hey everyone, welcome back.<\/p>\n

Today I am talking about Eddie Van Halen’s “Falling Down The Stairs and Landing On Your Feet” Technique.<\/p>\n

This is a technique Eddie has talked about in various interviews over the last 40 years.<\/p>\n

In a nutshell, this technique is encompassed by starting out a phrase in the key and then using chromaticism to move outside and then coming back to end the phrase on a note inside the key of the moment.<\/p>\n

Eddie did this in many solos around the Fair Warning to 1984 album eras.\u00a0 He was heavily influenced by Allan Holdsworth at that time so that might be a clue as to why he was approaching music that way then.<\/p>\n

The following video has a few excerpts from Van Halen classics “Drop Dead Legs,” and “One Foot Out The Door,” as well as a symmetrical riff from an interview Eddie did in a guitar magazine from the 90s.<\/p>\n
